Edward Fleming

Edward Fleming
My name is Edward Paul Fleming, Sr and I serve as one of 5 pastors/elders at Oakwood Baptist Church. I have been in pastoral ministry for more than 40 years and have been at Oakwood  for 3 years. God has gifted me in the area of teaching/preaching and discipleship. I seek to emphasize practical Christian living as it is governed by our sovereign Heavenly Father. In addition I am heavily involved in global missions, taking regular trips to other nations to train national pastors, with the ultimate goal of doing my small part in reaching the more than 2 billion unreached peoples of the world.

I was born in Fort Worth, Texas while my father was in seminary. I am one of 4 children {only 3 still living as my only sister is deceased}. Both my father and mother are also deceased. My father was a church planer and he started 2 churches, one in Florida and one in Maryland. Even though I "made a decision to accept Christ in my heart" at the age of 5 it was not until 17 years later that I was truly converted.

Much of my pastorates have been in the "tent making" mode. I ministered in Maryland, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania. Most of the time I worked an additional job to support the needs of my family. My wife and I were blessed with 4 children, 1 son and 3 daughters. Presently we have 10 grandchildren with another one to be born in September 2015.

I have earned a Bachelors, Masters, and 2 Doctorates through the years. I count my greatest honor to be the privilege of preaching "the unsearchable riches of Christ". Nothing compares to that. I agree with the Apostle Paul that "I am what I am only by the grace of God" {1 Corinthians 15:10}.

I love to read, walk, and meet for mutual discipleship over a cup of coffee, especially at one of the local Dunkin Donuts. I have also been known to frequently go to Dunkin Donuts alone with a book and study material and be there for hours at a time.
